Property Description:

Welcome to Lowestoffe Country Lodge.
Lowestoffe Country Lodge is secluded in the heart of the Elandsberg Mountains.   This pristine and exquisite setting, in the amphitheatre of the Hogsback area, forms the backdrop for family holidays or weekend getaways for those who want to appreciate country living at its very best.
Among the many activities available, Lowestoffe Country Lodge, specialise in Trout Fishing and Horse trail rides.   Their goal is to enhance family togetherness and relaxation - activities for which there can be no replacement!
Nestled within 5 500 hectares of spectacular countryside are three modern, self-catering lodges.   Each lodge is separate and very private as the privacy and comfort of their guests is paramount.
Lowestoffe Country Lodge is comprised of four farms - Lowestoffe, Rooken, Rockford and Woodhouselea.   This unique area of land also functions as a holistically managed sheep and cattle farm and is home to the first Appaloosa Sport Horse Stud in South Africa.  At the Africa Appaloosa Sport Horse Stud the horses are bred for conformation, size, intelligence and the Olympic disciplines, out crossing with the Thoroughbred and the Warmblood.
Together with spectacular scenery, and crisp high country air this must surely be one of the finest, most affordable, family run country retreats offered in South Africa today.

Activities:

Horse Riding

Come and experience one of the most exhilarating 2 hours you'll spend in a long time. It is one of the best ways to view this magnificent land.
Great trustworthy horses both for beginners and experienced riders.
Ride up the mountain and see the black wildebeest, fallow deer or blesbuck close up. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Mountain Reedbuck or even the Grey Rhebok, steenbokkie or duiker.
5 500 hectares of riding pleasure - go wherever your heart desires - along the river - up the mountains, and rest assured that your guide will be there to help you in any way in which you would like to be accommodated.

If you're used to being in the saddle and would like a longer ride, it can easily be arranged.

Fishing

Lowestoffe Country Lodge - A Trout fisherman's paradise!
We are now privileged to be able to offer the fisherman four large dams fully stocked with Rainbow Trout and one smaller bass dam. Lowestoffe Dam and Poplar Dam are both to be found on Lowestoffe itself, while Woodhouselea has two big dams as well. (2x4 LDV vehicle recommended for these two dams).

18km's of the Klipplaat river are also available to the fisherman. Delight in this beautiful stretch of water by fishing for trout or yellowfish, or just for the shear enjoyment of it. Peaceful, uninterrupted wild trout fishing at it's best - with all the comforts of home.

Facilities:

Lowestoffe Country Lodge offers a wide variety of things to see and do. Although fishing and horse riding are certainly two of our disctinctives (please see separate section for details) there are many different ways to enjoy your stay with us.

  • Walking, strolling, hiking - none will disappoint you.
  • Hiking up the Elandsberg mountain, standing where the Black Eagle spend their days at 7 200ft, is a fantastic experience. If more gentle walks are the order of the day, there are certainly plenty to choose from.
  • Bushman paintings - depicting some of the first horse paintings.
  • Bird-watching - from the Black Eagle, Fish Eagle and Crested Cranes to hundreds of other species of bird life.
  • Mountain biking - places abound - just bring your own bikes.
  • Tennis court - is available at the main homestead with a jungle gym alongside it in case you have to entertain your little ones!
  • Farming activities - shearing, lambing, calving, Holistic farming practices etc., we will gladly share with you.
  • Just a short scenic drive will get you to Hogsback (24km from Lowestoffe and 10km from Rockford). You can spend hours experiencing the uniqueness of this quaint little village or walking through the beautiful forests.
The game reserves of Mpofu, Tsolwana and Double Drift are but an hour's drive away.
